Saalfelden is situated in the basin-shaped valley of Saalach valley, 14 km north of Zell am See and approx. 70 km south of Salzburg, surrounded by the gentle Pinzgauer Grasbergen and the imposing Kalkhochalpen. Worth seeing is the Saalfeldener hermitage, several castles and villages in the surroundings and the museum of local history. Weekly farmers market and several entertainment options like brass music concerts, cafes, discos, pubs, wine bars, barbecue evenings and childrens programme as well as the annual jazz festival. Summer
To get to the Saalfeld Grasberge, take the double chair lift. There is a lovely rambling and climbing area in the Steinerne Meer or the Kalkhoch alps. There are about 30 various tours for cycling and a golf course with 2 18-hole golf courses, a driving range, a golf academy. Swimming in the moor Ritzen Lake with childrens paddling pool or in the open-air swimming pool with various pools and water slides. 21 tennis courts 3 of which indoor, tennis school, 3 squash places, summer toboggan run, bicycle hire, riding, horse-driven sleigh rides, mini golf, pit-pat, bowling, billiard, indoor-gocart, fitness parcours, table tennis, fishing, paragliding, rafting, guided rambling and cycling.
Winter
The Biberg-, Kühbühel- and Hinterreith-Lifts in Saalfelden are connected with a chair lift, 7 tow lifts and 3 practising lifts. For the total ski-experience there is the Saalfelden-Biberg-Hinterreith-Maria Alm-Aberg-Hinterthal with the Hochkönig ski swing and 48 lifts with 160 km downhill for all grades. Free ski bus Saalfelden-Biberg-Maria Alm-Aberg. 80 km cross country ski-trail in Saalfelden and 160 km in combination with the neighbouring community. Tour skiing, toboggan run, skating at Ritzen Lake or at ice-rink, 45 km winter rambling ways, horse-driven sleigh rides, indoor swimming pool, sauna, vapour bath.
